Running Visual Studio 2010 on Win 7 inside XP Mode

I outlined in an earlier post how XP Mode gives Windows 7 users a very easy way to try out beta software without worrying that the main operating system install might be messed up.

Here is a screenshot of VS 2010 Beta 2 running on my Win7 desktop.  Notice that the only way to tell is that it has the blue Windows XP bar at the top instead of the Win 7 Aero bar like Task Manager in front of it.

Why run in XP mode? Why not create a new VHD running win 7 and install VS.Net beta there instead? If you have MSDN, you should have the licenses...

@Josh,

>>Why run in XP mode?

It is there. It works. No manual management.

Sure, I've always used Virtual PC and VMWare for virtual machines, but using XP Mode means I avoid all the setup steps for the virtual.

Using XP Mode was so quick that I would be throwing away time if I went another route.

Yeah, I get that. My only thought was that you might miss out if you want to play with some Win7 specific features - new IIS version, multitouch, taskbar, etc. Hansleman's got a great post on streamlining the build of a reusable Win 7 VHD.
